A Day In The City! (Part 2)

A few weeks ago I went into New York City for day with my sister and my son - our goal to visit the Guggenheim and view the Hilma af Klint exhibit and meet my niece for dinner. Here’s part 2 of that day.

Liam took about 100 images on my sister’s phone that day!

Hilma af Klint (October 26, 1862 – October 21, 1944) was a Swedish artist and mystic whose paintings were among the first Western abstract art. A considerable body of her abstract work predates the first purely abstract compositions by Wassily Kandinsky. She belonged to a group called "The Five", a circle of women who shared her belief in the importance of trying to make contact with the so-called "High Masters" - often by way of séances. Her paintings, which sometimes resemble diagrams, were a visual representation of complex spiritual ideas. (from Wikipedia)

These smaller almost monotone works draw you in - you must get close to take in all the details.

After the obligatory stop at the gift shop we made our way along Fifth Avenue passing the Neue Galerie, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Frick Collection until we landed at the Boat Basin in Central Park. It was a glorious day!

We had a few hours to sit and relax, which never happens when we’re in the city, it was divine to just sit in the sunshine drinking a glass of wine and really savor the day before grabbing a cab to Herald Square to meet Christina for dinner at Stella 34 located on the 6th floor inside Macy’s.

The Empire State Building over the course of our evening.

After dinner we did a little shopping and we had to show Liam the wooden Escalator.

We’re so fortunate to be able to get into the City easily. It’s just over an hour and as the crow flies it’s less then 25 miles. How lucky are we?1? Next up may be The Met Breuer. Liam really loves modern art.

Til next time!

Friendly Introduction

I recently met with Kristin Luciano founder of the House of Luciano one of the premiere New Jersey based Bridal Beauty firms - What better way to celebrate the First Day of Spring than introduce my readers to this wonderfully talented woman who makes her clients feel amazing on their special day!

I’ve been a beauty enthusiast since my very first dance recital when I got to wear bright red lipstick and lots and lots of mascara for the first time!

Kristin has a delightful story of how she ended up the head of a Beauty Brand. You know that old saying about being in the right place…

One day while Kristin was studying Marketing at Loyola University her landlord told she and her roommates to bring the rent check to her at work… they had no idea what their landlords profession was - well - Debi Young a professional Make-Up Artist was on location. After delivering the check and meeting the late actor Alan Rickman - Kristin had a light-bulb moment - She could do Make-Up as a Career! She’d already been applying make-up on her friends and seeing how it made them feel better about themselves since high school. After graduation she attended The Makeup Shop while attending the school she interned for Tobi Britton in the Shop and still gets excited when she shares that Tobi paid them all in make-up. She was able to complete her Kit in no time!

I asked why Weddings? Kristin answered by saying “Weddings are always fun! Everyone is always happy and excited; why wouldn’t I want to work with such happy clients” Kristin also touched on her Make-Up philosophy - She only looks to enhance someone, she never wants to change them or have them look like someone else.

I love my ladies look like themselves.

House of Luciano has launched a line of Lipsticks and Glosses - to round out her clients Wedding day experience - so her ladies aren’t left without what they need to look fresh for the rest of the day. The formula has deep saturated colors and is extremely long wearing.

I should know I am lucky enough to have two beautiful shades!

Kristin has made the House of Luciano one of New Jersey’s premiere Bridal Beauty providers. She has earned top honors in the industry as a repeat "Best of Weddings" and “Hall of Fame” vendor on The Knot, as well as many features in New Jersey Bride, Manhattan Bride, Brides.com and Style Me Pretty. She maintains a valid Aesthetics License from the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology since 2006.

Kristin shared a Fan Girl moment with me - she recounted - seeing Make-Up Artist and Business Woman Bobbi Brown at a Soul Cycle Class - Yes, she went up to her and told her what a fan she was of her products and that she used them with her own clients!

Even if you’re wedding day was years ago…You will learn useful tips and see hands-on product demonstrations on Kristin’s wonderful blog and tutorials on YouTube. I highly recommend checking them out!

I loved interviewing Kristin and I look forward to sharing more entrepreneurial women with you.

Glittery Goodness

I recently installed a lovely Project 62 Mirror by the Front Door and it started me thinking about all the bright brass pieces around the Chalet.

I bought this Project 62 tray last year and I couldn’t be happier I did. I absolutely love the brass accent legs on my new coffee table from Home Sense. Isn’t my Bunny sweet from Urban Redeux. These Crate and Barrel wood & marble coasters are awesome!

Still loving every piece I’ve thrifted from Pepper Leigh Eclectic! This brass vessels help my flowers last a very long time. Here’s my recipe for long lasting blooms: Warm Water Metal container or a glass container with Pennies and I change the water every other day and I usually do not use flower fresh.

I’ve incorporated some bright bits on my desk…the framed photographs and the pen holder.

How fun is this clipper ship - and my Lion - both are treasures from Pepper Leigh Eclectic.

Honorable mention to the amazing bell that was part of a collection from my uncle - he lovingly gave to my son!

I’ve incorporated some gold accents in the corner gallery wall in the Livingroom too!

I’ve gone green and gold on the mantel! I love this thrifted watercolor of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica .

One of favorite pieces is this glittery K my sister gifted me a few Christmases ago! I love it!

Some keys pieces on the Porch are from Target: the Floor Lamp and Round Table.

This gold and brass trend started a few seasons ago but, I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon.

Here are some current items you can add to your abode!
