My Take Away from Summer '19

As most bloggers - I have a content calendar - but, I changed it up to add this post. As a Cancerian I am all about history… be it the larger scope of the world or my own personal history. This week I’m taking a deep dive into how we spent our Summer.

We’re so lucky to be able to join our local Swim Club and spend most days (although our weather was a bit iffy this year) there. I match my schedule to my son’s in the summer and I don’t work much.

The boys love to take in a Jackals Game over at the Yogi Berra Stadium at Montclair State University.

We went to Ocean City, NJ and had a wonderful week of sun and sand with our family. We celebrated L’s 8th birthday and Independence day while we were there and we were blessed with stellar weather.

My birthday is mid -July and I had a weekend of fun with family and friends. There was sushi, my favorite cupcakes and fireworks.

The next day was a visit to the most magical place on earth… the Metropolitan Museum of Art followed by drinks at Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle and Dinner at Del Posto (after the Mid-Town power outage made dining at The Whitby Bar and Restaurant impossible)

There was Hockey Camp at Floyd Hall Area at Montclair State University.

We enjoyed a quick trip to Hershey Park, PA.

Any days the weather allowed - we enjoyed the pool. I can’t believe I caught this shot!

I was blessed to share a lovely evening with my best friend… she lives in Turks and Caicos and was passing through New Jersey. All I can say is thank God for Face Time friends!

After dodging a crazy pop-up storm I made it into the City without getting drenched a few weeks ago for the Bryan Ferry Show at the United Palace - but, first we popped up on the High Line for a bit before heading to Crave Fishbar for dinner.

Nothing fosters a sense of partnership better than an intense day of moving rocks. My Hubby and I got to enjoy a rare evening out - just us two.

We closed out the season with a marathon day at the Met. We covered more galleries last Thursday (8/29/19) than I ever have in all the many years I’ve been visiting this amazing institution. Then we had a delicious dinner at Stella 34 Trattoria & Bar on the 6th floor in Macy’s Herald Square. My niece’s office is on 7th so its a great location to meet up and the food is superb along with a wonderful view of the Empire State Building! Of course we had to pop into the Story store before we headed out of Macy’s to the Ferry.

Hello Summer 2019!

IMG_1766+01.jpg

We’re currently at the beach! We decided Liam needed to experience fireworks while sitting on the beach and if we say beach we can only mean one place my friends - Ocean City, NJ. We know he will be thrilled. For years my sister and her family came to the beach that week and I was always lucky and blessed to be able to join them - as long as I brought a case of Heineken I was welcome! Ocean City is a dry town - a stop at Circle Liquors in Somers Point is mandatory before crossing the bridge!

This is the Lifeguard stand on our stretch of beach. We’ve been staying on St. Charles Place for years! We love being doors from the sand and Browns Restaurant - the makers of the best donuts in the entire world!

This week is about reconnecting with family. Relishing hours on the beach, playing card games, enjoying beautiful beach views while eating a ton of Manco & Manco pizza, walking the boards, getting delicious chocolate treats from Shriver’s, enjoying rides at Gillan’s Wonderland, shopping for a new T-shirt or two from Ocean Treasures, seeing how many rounds of Mini Golf we can fit in, dinner at the Crab Trap in Somers Point and doing our best not to get sunburned while savoring every minute!

Nothing beats Gillian’s for funnel cake, Kohrs ice cream, the Tilt-A-Whirl, the Scrambler, Bumper Cars and more!

Two Ski or Not to Ski!

IMG_5378.JPG
IMG_5291.jpg

We had the best get away to Stratton Mountain, VT earlier this month. Steven, Liam and I headed out Friday the 8th and returned Monday the 11th.

Two of us ski - the boys - but, I’m always happy to go along!

My husband scoped out a place to meet up with the family and have lunch in Kingston, NY at the Bowery Dugout Restaurant. It was a kitschy place with delicious food.

Every parent at the Rest Stop in NY State was explaining to their children what this was…. LOL!

Of course we stopped at a favorite haunt - the Gristmill Antique Center in Troy, NY. We happily came home with a Currier and Ives book and a lovely etching of a Street full of Chalets.

Since that weekend - If I say Man Of Kent every skier knows this great tavern located on Rt. 7 in Hoosick Falls, NY for good reason - it is not to be missed! The family loves seeing the Medford Lakes, NJ Canoe Carnival Trivet on the Wall. We have family there and our late Uncle was a force behind this decades old - Floating Parade!

We rolled into Stratton just as the sun was setting… We drove past the village on the way to the condo we rented in Stratton Springs.

The condo was lovely with 3 bedrooms 3 baths and a lovely open kitchen with dining over looking a great room. The garage has been converted into a games room complete with a multi use table: ping pong top over a pool table. Liam had a ton of fun hanging with his cousin!

Saturday the skiers set off - Steven, my niece Christina, Liam and my sis Noreen - with extra hand warmers - the temperatures were hovering in the teens - overnight the winds hit 50mph.

Stratton has a lovely village full of shops and restaurants. My BIL (who doesn’t ski either) and I ventured to the Village to meet the gang for Lunch - both days we ate at Mulligans. The menu has delicious tavern fare and really wonderful sushi!

Saturday evening we dined at Verde’. The atmosphere and the food were delightful!

Love this video - you’ll hear my hubby’s voice - Liam is skiing with my sister and niece.

Scenes from Sunday’s ski adventures! Look how delightful Stratton is! I can’t recommend it enough. On Sunday afternoon we hit some of the shops and brought home a cute poster for Liam’s room from the Stratton Clothing Company and I grabbed the most delectable treats from Coyote - a newly opened espresso and dessert bar featuring local products and goods from the Stratton area.

We stopped at Big Moose Deli and Country Store…. there is a whole lotta fun and tasty stuff going on in there folks! Another must stop!

We bought our supply of syrup here and a bunch of penny candy sticks too!

It was a wonderful long weekend and know we’ll be heading back to Stratton next winter. Huge thanks to my sister for making it happen!

please follow along....PNG
